I can’t help but notice that people are still using Winamp for the output of their Internet radio stations.
While Winamp is a great little media player things have moved on since the release of Winamp 20 or so years ago.
Winamp is only really suitable for listening to an album or Internet radio stream BUT its nowhere near suitable for automating your stations output.
Why bother with Winamp?
The fact Winamp doesn’t have a database is also another one of its downsides & it becomes cumbersome having to change playlists manually.
Winamp has no artist/title separation rules so you end up hearing the same artists back to back.
The thing I hated most about Winamp was that it could never crossfade properly, no matter which settings or DSP plugins I tried.
There is better software than Winamp to automate your Internet radio station with Radio DJ radio automation software.
RadioDJ crossfades far better than Winamp.
Yes RadioDJ requires a MySQL Database which may sound scary but it needn’t be.
You need to install a program called MariaDB for your songs database. Links to install/download MariaDB are in the tutorial.
If you get stuck setting things up help & support is always available through the Radio DJ community forums.
You can have events loading playlists in RadioDJ or just leave RadioDJ to what it does best and that’s Automate…
Make the switch to Radio DJ it will make your online radio station sound professional and make it streamlined. Did we mention RadioDJ is free?
