Sam Broadcaster 2016

I saw a few days back that Spacial Audio had released SAM Broadcaster 2016.1

Now before you say “OH he’s bashing SAM again” I’m not!

I’m just making my observations as to what happened when I went to test it. I just wish those observations weren’t the same as when I tested the 2015 versions of SAM. Things seemed to be OK until after about 20 minutes…

The Key To The Secret? No Need!

We look at the latest searches on our website dashboards quite regularly.

Recently someone did a search on this website for a key code for a piece of software.

“It’s not difficult to work out which bit of software they were actually looking for”

The Main Target Were The Hobby Users…

A station owner posted a feature request on the RadioDJ forums asking for a GPIO system inclusion in the software.

“Is possible to add GPIO to an event like a play/stop command it could be used turn ON/OFF channels on the mixer, Also I would like to have spots management and scheduling in radio DJ. It would be great for Radio DJ to have a Web interface from which I can import track/spots, scheduling, reports and other things or drupal modules”

Nothing wrong in that I hear you say…

Threatened By Free Software?

We wish we knew what people's problem is with free software...

We’ve had grief again for promoting RadioDJ, and dispelling a few myths about it too.

It’s almost as if certain sections of the Internet radio crowd see RadioDJ as a threat?!

“We also realise that certain people in the world of online radio don’t like this website/blog because of our posts about SAM Broadcaster and its many issues”

Altacast No Longer Supported On The RadioDJ Forum

This morning I went onto the RadioDJ forums to see what was happening.

I saw a post from Marius the website owner stating that the Altacast sub forum had been removed.

“We were notified that Altacast is violating DMCA and as a result I will remove all related stuff from this forum.”

Marius went onto say this: “For support, please contact its author and don’t use our forum”

It appears Fraunhofer the people behind AAC encoding technology seem to think Altacast is breaking DMCA rules. Like its predecessor Edcast/Oddcast.

(Although we cannot find a DMCA complaint related to the Altacast website or software)

It now means support for Altacast Standalone/Plugin/DSP is somewhat limited.

For future updates you’re probably best keeping an eye on the Altacast Website

Be aware that future versions of RadioDJ may not support the Altacast plugin.

Which means you will have to find another alternative to stream with.

Update 2018: Altacast seems to be a dead project now there have been no updates since March 2016, the only reason there is still a website is because its hosted on a free hosting package.

Why Does RadioDJ Rely On A MySQL Database?

Saw this post on a forum on a post about RadioDJ free radio automation software.

“The biggest fail with RadioDJ to me is the reliance upon a MySQL database”

The fact RadioDJ relies on a database for some of it’s functions is actually one of it’s PLUS points.

Sam Broadcaster Problems Unique?

It appears the Spacial Audio marketing department don’t like users asking on their social media pages if anyone else is suffering problems with SAM Broadcaster.

“We would greatly appreciate it if you could let us handle customer queries as customer problems are unique”

Yes that’s what we’ll call the problems with Spacial Audio software “Unique”
