When Sam Broadcaster Auto Updates Go Wrong!

When SAM Broadcaster Auto Updates Go Wrong!

I read a post on the Spacial forums today where a user had just downloaded the latest version of SAM broadcaster because the program told him there was an update available.

The problem was this user was using SAM Broadcaster 2013 and the auto updater tried updating it to SAM Broadcaster 2014 for which the user didn’t have a valid key & inevitably it all went horribly wrong for him.

He now can’t get his copy of 2013 reactivated until the support staff (or lack of) are back in the office. It’s a holiday weekend in America.

So it looks like he’s going to be stuck until at least Tuesday with no way of using SAM Broadcaster.

This is yet another reason why people should ditch SAM Broadcaster and use Radio DJ Free Radio Automation software instead.

Radio DJ has an auto update function that gives you the latest version automatically without the added headache of a registration key not being valid.

Maybe one day Spacial will get something right? Probably NOT!

Sam Broadcaster 2014

Now Sam Broadcaster 2014 is out of beta testing. They’re now on version 2014.3 and nothing ever seems to change with the program or the customer support.

I briefly tested it yesterday and the sound quality wasn’t a patch on RadioDJ. Mind the sound in SAM Broadcaster always has been dodgy.

If the 2 releases of SAM Broadcaster 2014 are anything to go by it’s just the same overpriced program that it has always been.

The first version I tested 2014.2 crashed on me after 5 minutes.

I highly doubt you will see any major changes to the software in 2014. Bug fixes (if you are lucky) and more SAM Vibe integration. I also noted with this beta release comes the mother of all scams again.

The Spacial DJ seat system. Which is now designed to work through SAM Vibe.

Most people I see speaking about the DJ Seat system on the Internet feel the DJ seat system is just another way of making users of the software cough up more money for the software.

It’s seems the band of unhappy users just keep coming.

Save yourself the headaches of SAM Broadcaster 2014 not working properly and vote with your wallet and try FREE software like RadioDJ which is proven to work.

SAM Broadcaster 2014 still has the same bugs that the program had back in version 2.7.9 and they never seem to fix them.

Don’t buy SAM broadcaster 2014 you will only be paying Spacial Audio to make even more bad versions of the program.

So The Testing Is Going Well?

I checked on the Spacial audio facebook page earlier and saw this post from a user who is helping beta test the new 2014 version of SAM Broadcaster.

Now users are having major issues with being able to connect to Live365 with the latest version of SAM Broadcaster 2014.2

So the testing is going well then? It certainly doesn’t look that way to me.

It seems they just go from bad release to bad release with SAM Broadcaster.

I hope this sends out a clear message to anyone thinking about buying SAM broadcaster from Spacial.

Their software developers haven’t got a clue! Don’t waste your time with it and save yourself the headaches and even the cash.

Where as RadioDJ is far more stable even under beta testing conditions.

If you are looking for a stable broadcasting program use RadioDJ it holds up a lot better than any beta version of SAM Broadcaster ever will.

Give it up Spacial no one wants SAM Broadcaster with it’s outrageous price tag and it’s problems anymore!

Nothing Ever Changes.

This morning I managed to get my hands on a copy of SAM Broadcaster 2014.2

So I thought I would give a spin and see what was what.

Nice to see that nothing ever changes with the software.

It’s still the same old unreliable program that it has always been.

I only had it open for 15 minutes before it did one of it’s infamous disappearing acts.

Yep it’s still doing what it’s always done crashing without warning.

Spacial Audio are utterly clueless.

I get a feeling they are still writing it with Borland/Embarcadero Delphi which I’ve blogged about before Here .

My advice to anyone thinking about buying SAM Broadcaster 2014 is:

Switch to RadioDJ Which is FREE (No catch) and is written in .NET

(Works on XP/Vista/Win 7/Win 8)

Plus it won’t crash or whinge like SAM Broadcaster does.

Give it up Spacial Audio your software is so badly written even a monkey in a cage could do a better job.

Much Disgruntled!

Just been for a look on the Spacial Audio Facebook page. Yet again it would seem that their customer service and software are still NOT up to scratch.

You can see by these two posts that this is one much disgruntled! customer.

What keeps going so wrong with Spacial audio??

We already know their software isn’t worth the money they ask for it.

They promised at least 2 years ago now to improve the customer service. That doesn’t appear to have happened.

It’s bad enough when 1 customer starts getting angry on Facebook let alone a whole raft of them.

And still the unhappy users keep coming…..

I agree with one statement in the above pictures. Yes I think that Spacial should stop making SAM Broadcaster as it never appears to work properly for broadcasting with.

I know there are of lots more unhappy Ex SAM Broadcaster users because they generally tend to swap to RadioDJ instead.

I don’t think a week goes by on the RDJ Forum without someone saying they have switched from SAM broadcaster.

The message yet again is: Don’t buy SAM Broadcaster or any other software from Spacial Audio

You will only end up regretting it!

The Secret Is: Don’t Use Go-Daddy!

Just seen a post on the Spacial forums where a user wants to set his request function up. His website is hosted by Go Daddy.

The secret is that he will never get SAM Broadcaster requests working as Godaddy don’t have the SQL port 3306 or the other port 1221 open. I’m sure someone will point this out to him eventually.

That’s just one reason to avoid Godaddy!

Another is the fact the owner thinks it’s good fun to go around and kill defenseless wild animals!

Shop around for a webhost that allows you to have ports open so you can have a working website would be my advice. Go Daddy suck big time.

Update 30/01/2014: GoDaddy owns up to role in epic Twitter account hijacking. Read about that here

Update 16/04/2014: Yet again GoDaddy are doing stuff you wouldn’t believe if it wasn’t so outrageous. They’ve given someone’s identifiable information to a spammer troll who has then used it against the person.

You can read all about that Here

The Secret is: Do NOT use Go Daddy!!

Sam Broadcaster Request Server Security Flaw!

SAM Broadcaster Request Server Security Flaw! Yes you read the title properly folks. It seems the built in webserver that handles listener requests in SAM broadcaster has a security flaw in it.

SAM broadcaster is already a dodgy enough program without adding stuff like this on top! I saw this post on the SAM broadcaster forums last night….

Yes you are reading that post correctly. “I will need to check on that in SAM, that probably could present a security issue.”

No probably about it about it. When there’s a security hole it leaves a users system open to all sorts of vulnerabilities.

Then just this morning he came back with this.

“Right, but what I am starting to realize is that there is a problem in the way we determine who gets access and the end user’s perspective of how it should work. I am not looking to make this process more difficult. IP Whitelisting is really an insecure way to go about this if we are trusting the local DNS because that could be compromised or misconfigured. I mean it certainly is better than trusting all connections but that is like saying having a door on your house is enough to keep burglars out.

This problem has more than likely been in the program for years. I knew there was something that wasn’t quite right about the way the requests were handled in SAM Broadcaster (Far too complicated to set up for starters) I just knew that it wasn’t as secure as it should have been.

So yet again it just appears the problems are racking up for SAM broadcaster. Think about your server and computers security when choosing software that handles requests and don’t buy SAM broadcaster from Spacial Audio.

It could leave your computer open to attack. Which would be the last thing you would need when running an Internet radio station.

Quick update on this post: 25/07/2014 There have also now been some security issues found within the samPHPweb templates themselves. You can read about that here.

Keep Calm And Use Radiodj

Keep Calm and use RadioDJ

Spacial audio have a picture on their facebook page.

They are asking their users to “Keep calm and use SAM”

I can assure you “Calm” was the last thing I was when I was using SAM Broadcaster.

I used to swear frequently at the computer because it would never work right.

Since I made the switch to Radio DJ Free radio automation software.

I’m no where near as frustrated as RadioDJ seems to work flawlessly.

So I think it’s only right that RadioDJ has it’s own poster!

Remember “Keep Calm and use RadioDJ”

(Feel FREE to use this poster on your website)
