If It Wasn’t For The Spammers This Place Would Be Dead.

To say things have been a little bit quiet on the Broadcasting World forum lately would be an understatement.

One of the users made this observation over the weekend.

“Wow, if it wasn’t for the Russian dating person, the forum would be dead!”

Winamp Feature Req: Smart Crossfade

A user has posted on the feature request section of the Winamp forums asking the developers to include “Smart crossfading” in the next version.

Winamp

“Smart crossfade analyses the playlist and determines if the songs are in increasing sequential track order from the same album. If they aren’t (like in most random mixes) user defined crossfading is used”

Any improvement in crossfading between tracks in Winamp would be welcomed.

Vigilante Stream Monitoring Group?

With everything that’s gone on this past few weeks in regards to the new Licence fee rate hikes.

It’s no surprise that some online stations have decided to go off air because of the costs involved.

I’ve just had this brought to my attention on a broadcasting forum.

There is a group of ex US broadcasters that were forced off the air because of the hike in royalty rates, and these people have decided to form a vigilante stream monitoring group.

The Future Of Streaming: Only For The Rich?

I’ve been reading a few articles this past few weeks to do with Internet radio royalty fees going up for stations on the Internet.

>> This being one of them <<

Some station owners are paying as little as $23.50 a month to licence their streams at the moment and it’s those broadcasters who are going to be affected by any rise in royalty payments.

Under the WSA which expires this year the SoundExchange portion of royalties would be around $60-$90 a month.

Winamp And Shoutcast Now Owned By Vivendi

I saw a post on the Winamp/Shoutcast forums this morning. It would appear Winamp and Shoutcast are now partly owned by a company called Vivendi.

“Winamp is back… in the hands of a major corporation: Vivendi has acquired a 64.4 percent stake in Radionomy, the European online radio services company that owns Winamp and Shoutcast as well as the online radio ad marketplace Targetspot.

Vivendi owns the likes of Universal Music Group, Canal+ and Dailymotion.
