What Database Issues? (MariaDB)

I asked my partner to find out when we actually installed MariaDB on our PC that we run RadioDJ from.

We’ve had MariaDB installed on all of our machines since June 2014. Including any website servers its rare we have to do any maintenance.

Since we started using MariadB we’ve only had 1 maybe 2 issues with a database table becoming corrupted after a sudden/improper shutdown of the computer.

Why Pay For Sam Broadcaster?

Q: Why Pay For SAM Broadcaster?

Its a perfectly legitimate question.

Spacial Audio ask between $299 & $699 for the pro and studio editions of SAM Broadcaster.

“The fact that the SAM Broadcaster studio edition is $400 more expensive than SAM Broadcaster Pro is down to the a change in the EULA (End user licence agreement)”

The snag is you cannot use a “normal” $299 copy of SAM Broadcaster Pro to run a terrestrial (AM/FM) radio station with.

MariaDB & RadioDJ (Setting Up MySQL)

We came across MariaDB after a user posted on the RadioDJ forums that they were using it with RadioDJ.

I have to admit I was surprised by how easy MariaDB was to install. It’s a lot more straight forward than the normal MySQL installer. Its not as fiddly as setting up MySQL server edition.

If you have previously had MySQL installed you will need to see this article about removing it as a service

1) Download the Maria DB MSI installer for your version of Windows Here

2) Open the file & Install and run when Windows prompts.

3) On the licence agreement screen check the accept box. Click next.

You’re Running A Radio Station Not A Jukebox

A user on the RadioDJ forums wants the demo request (PHP) script to offer a bit more flexibility for user requests.

They wanted to limit the amount of requests a user can request.

You can do this with the Demo Request Script

You can limit the time between requests and also control how many songs someone can request per day.

“Although while it’s nice to have the request function in RadioDJ you have to remember you’re running a radio station not a Jukebox”

Listen2Myradio (Why Even Bother?)

A user has posted on the Shoutcast forums about a problem he’s having with @Listen2MyRadio blocking links to external players.

“Listen2MyRadio is a free Shoutcast service that requires listeners to tune in via a badly coded web page”

They don’t allow you to have external connections for that server.
