Now Playing Text issue (RadioDJ)

Seen a few posts from people who are struggling to get RadioDJ to generate the NowPlaying.txt files.

To get RadioDJ to generate the text file you need to be running RadioDJ as “Administrator”

Now Playing Text

“Newer version of Windows won’t allow writing on C root drive if the application is not running as administrator. It’s not a RadioDJ issue, but a Windows security rule”

Don’t forget to set the location of where you want the program to generate the text file to. e.g C:\NowPlaying.txt

If it’s still not working try lowering your UAC (User Account Control) settings to the lowest setting. As has been said its usually a Windows security problem that stops it from writing the file to the location.

That is all there is to getting a now playing output which can be read by most of the Standalone encoding solutions out there.

Should you still have issues then try the RadioDJ community forums and explain your issue clearly and calmly.

Avoid running “other” software on your RadioDJ machine!

Recently noticed a couple of users complaining they were having performance issues with the machine they were running RadioDJ on.

RadioDJ free radio automation software v1.8.2

It’s since transpired that they had other programs/processes open when they had the problems.

How You Wire Your Studio Up Is Up to You

Yet again another new RadioDJ user complaining on the forums about the fact RadioDJ doesn’t have a built in microphone button.

People have already been told the reason it doesn’t have a built in microphone input is down to latency issues.

This is what Marius had to say to the latest user wanting a mic input.

“Let’s have a little test with Windows inputs: Go to Control Panel >> Sound >> Recording tab and double click your microphone. In Listen tab select “Listen to this device” and make sure that the mic level is high enough. Now speak into the microphone to see the amount of delay you will have directly from Windows, without any additional processing like compressor, equaliser etc. Do you really think that is usable in a radio environment”

Of course it isn’t if your serious about Internet radio.

RadioDJ doesn’t need a microphone input. Just use a mixer to process the audio before it’s sent to the PC

You can wire a mixer into the (blue) line in socket of the PC and get your encoding program to pick the sound up from stereo mix or you can achieve the same thing using Virtual Audio cables to send the final audio to the encoding program.

We’ve used the line in & virtual audio cables method for about 4 years now.

There are also some RadioDJ users getting great results using Voice Meeter Banana to sort their audio mixing out.

“But I can’t afford a mixing desk”

STOP talking crap! Save up your $$$ if you have to! I had to scrimp and save to be able to afford my studio equipment.

A decent 4 channel mixing desk should only cost you about £90/$140. You can buy them cheap enough online.

It’s all worth it in the long run as you will sound a lot more professional.

How you eventually wire your studio up is up to you though!

There are plenty of tutorials on websites like You tube for things like that.

Stop expecting too much from a piece of FREE software. To be fair RadioDJ is only a studio automation program. Not a full studio solution.

SAM Cast Fail

Reading through the Spacial forums this post caught my attention.

Screenshot from 2013-10-26 15:52:30

Yet again Spacial seem to be releasing software that isn’t fit for purpose.

They forced people into upgrading to the newer version of SAM Cast just so they could run the newer versions of the software on a new OS.

No software company should do that.

Instead they should make sure their software works on all versions of Windows.

Letting the end user decide what operating system they want to use.

If you need a stand alone encoder then don’t bother with SAM Cast.

It doesn’t support title streaming (Unless you have a degree in programming)

Simplecast was the same that never worked properly either that was prone to crashing without warning as well.
