The future of streaming: Only for the rich?

I’ve been reading a few articles this past few weeks to do with Internet radio royalty fees going up for stations on the Internet.

>> This being one of them < <

Some station owners are paying as little as $23.50 a month to licence their streams at the moment and it’s those broadcasters who are going to be affected by any rise in royalty payments.

Under the WSA which expires this year the SoundExchange portion of royalties would be around $60-$90 a month.

Ideas for Cheap Microphones?

This is a question somebody asked on the RadioDJ forums earlier today.

“Please could all of you give me some good ideas on cheap microphones I can use with radio DJ that will link into the soundcard of my tower”

We’re guessing this guy wants to just be able to plug a cheap microphone straight into his computer and have the audio from that go through RadioDJ

I posted awhile back about people wanting a Microphone input in RadioDJ to bypass the need for a mixer.

Some people seem to think the Input button in RadioDJ is for a microphone. That’s not what the input button in RadioDJ is for…

Whose Blog Is It Anyway?

OK People of the world of Internet radio can you all do me a huge favour?

Stop telling me what to think/post/write on this website and even social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

I’m getting royally fed up of people having a go at me because of my dislike for a certain piece of software.

It’s all getting a bit boring when trolls start hiding behind their keyboards to dish out abuse and vitriol.

RadioDJ Stable Database

It’s June 2014 since I last decided to rebuild my RadioDJ SQL database from scratch.

RadioDJ free radio automation software

In all the years I’ve been doing Internet Radio this is the longest I’ve gone without having to rebuild a SQL database.

Some of the credit for the stability also needs to go to MariaDB we’ve found it’s a lot more stable and easier to setup than Oracle MySQL.

When I used other automation software I was having to rebuild the database from scratch every other week as it was just so unstable and badly written…

Plus that piece of software didn’t have a backup tool so when the database went wrong you lost all your data which sucked!

The RadioDJ database setup tool takes a daily backup of your MySQL data and is easily restored if the worst should happen.

TIP: Backup your RadioDJ database to USB pen drive so you don’t lose data should your PC go wrong
“The only issue we’ve had with the database in the last 18 months was after a power cut which caused some of the tables to crash and was easily solved using HeidiSQL to quickly repair them.”

Thankfully power cuts don’t happen that often where we live.

Other than that one issue with a power cut the RadioDJ database has been amazingly rock solid & reliable.

IF you haven’t discovered RadioDJ free radio automation software yet what are you waiting for?

RadioDJ is FREE for use by any DJ or radio station anywhere in the world and comes with no nasty hidden fees or catches.

It really is as you see it with no activation’s needed or keys required to unlock the full benefits of the program.

“If you’ve been having database stability issues with other automation software, MAKE THE SWITCH you’ll be amazed at what FREE & stable radio automation software can do for you and your radio station”

It’s a pleasure to use radio automation software when it works as it’s designed.

RadioDJ is Dodgy?

When we see someone on social media having an issue with SAM Broadcaster we try and let them know there’s a better free alternative.

Yesterday we suggested RadioDJ to someone on Twitter and they came back with…

“Oh but I’ve heard RadioDJ is dodgy?”

Where people are getting the idea RadioDJ is “dodgy” from we don’t know.

We know of a few blogs posts from other software/hosting companies who try to make out RadioDJ is inferior because of the fact it’s free.

Those blog posts are just a pack of lies!

SAM Broadcaster Mac SQL Problems

SAM Broadcaster for the Mac has now been Scrapped/discontinued by Spacial Audio!

This past few days I’ve seen a few users saying they were having issues when installing SAM Broadcaster Mac (Crossover) edition.

SAM Broadcaster Mac SQL problems

For some unknown reason it appears the crossover version won’t connect to the users MySQL database.

Database installation problems with SAM Broadcaster aren’t just confined to the Mac (Crossover) version.

I had no end of problems trying to get SAM to install the database in the Windows version in the past.

As I said in a previous post…

It appears the SAM Broadcaster Mac (Crossover) version was cobbled together in a rush to get a working release out.

The SAM Broadcaster Mac edition isn’t native Mac software. It’s just the Windows version ported over.

I knew there would be problems when Spacial ported SAM Broadcaster to the Mac.

The Windows version has enough of it’s own issues & bugs to begin with.

Sadly when it comes to the Mac there aren’t that many alternatives when it comes to radio automation software written natively for OS X.

The only other “alternative” I can suggest is installing Windows on Virtualbox on your Mac and have that running a copy of software such as RadioDJ

We realise that’s probably not an ideal solution for most Mac users but we’re afraid its as good as you’re going to get at the moment.

Who knows one day maybe some boffin will come up with a decent “Native” automation software package for the Mac…

Stop paying $$$ for software from Spacial Audio you’re just paying them to lurch from one disaster to another.
