SAM Broadcaster won’t open after reboot

Saw a post on the Spacial Audio forums.

“Help SAM Broadcaster won’t open after reboot”

SAM Broadcaster stopped working

SAM Broadcaster going wrong is nothing new. In the past we’ve had to uninstall and reinstall SAM Broadcaster after the program went wrong and wouldn’t start up after a reboot of the computer.

This has happened to us on many occasions on different operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Sorry I Can’t Do My Show SAM Broadcaster Crashed

While doing my usual bits n pieces recently on Twitter, I came across tweets from a couple of SAM Broadcaster users who had to cancel their live shows because SAM Broadcaster wasn’t working.

“Sorry ya’ll but I cant run my show today because my SAM broadcaster is not working I have to get it fixed”

Then there’s this

“Sorry there’s no way I’ll get this fixed in time, SAM Broadcaster won’t cooperate”

You’re Cracking Us Up!!

I’ve written a few posts on this blog pertaining to people looking for SAM Broadcaster keys/cracks/keygens etc…

When I wrote them I had no idea that those posts would take on a life of their own.

SAM Broadcaster cracks searches

As far as I’m aware Spacial Audio don’t seem to think there’s a problem with people wanting pirated versions of their badly written software. Although they do put in several DMCA requests to Google every year.

You’re Just Making Stuff Up?

We’ve been accused of “Making up the problems about SAM Broadcaster”

Nope not lying or making anything up, things really are as bad as they seem with SAM Broadcaster

The problems documented on this website are just a few of the reasons as to why we think the software isn’t worth the $$$ Spacial Audio charge for it.

SAM Brodcaster Can’t Tell The Time

When it comes to Internet radio we find it’s always best to use .mp3 files ripped at 320kbps CBR (constant bit rate)

You would then expect those files should then show the correct duration in the audio software you are using.

Alas It would appear SAM Broadcaster has issues with the duration of some files.

This user has tried converting and even rerecording the track and the program still shows the incorrect countdown/remaining time.

SAM Broadcaster wrong length on mp3 files

As you can see from the picture below SAM Broadcaster thinks “The Beatles” tracks all have rather long duration times.

This has been a problem within SAM Broadcaster since the early days (v2.7.7) even with properly ripped .mp3 files.

I’ve found if SAM Broadcaster doesn’t like an .mp3 file it tends to show the time as ??:??

One of the SVS volunteers has even tried to blame it on the users badly ripped .mp3 files.

It’s NOT the way your music files are ripped it’s very much a SAM Broadcaster problem.

I’d imagine it also does this with the other supported file formats.

RadioDJ doesn’t tend to have this issue with properly ripped tracks.

RadioDJ detects and shows the correct duration/time for of all of them.

RadioDJ has a far better track/cue point editor & you can use custom intro/fade out markers.

This is just another reason to ditch SAM Broadcaster if the program can’t do something as simple as show the correct duration of files.

It’s another problem that the Spacial Audio development team are probably aware of but NOT in a hurry to fix.

Bye Bye Louis Louw

Just been for a look at the Spacial Audio blog and saw that Louis Louw is to step down as CTO (Chief Technology officer)

Louis Louw steps down as CTO

Louis Louw has been in charge of Spacial for over 16 years now and you would have thought as one of the co-founders he’d have worked harder on the development of the program to iron out all the glaring bugs and random crashing issues?

When in reality they just lurched from one badly written version of SAM Broadcaster to another.

We guess that now means Spacial Audio are only based in the US and Canada with Louis stepping down as CTO they’ll lose their South Africa offices though they haven’t listed South Africa on their Twitter account for a while now.

Maybe now the development team should be able to make SAM Broadcaster the stable reliable program it was supposed to have been?

We won’t hold our breath on that one though… The software was that badly coded in the past we guess it’ll be difficult for them to track down and find the bugs that need fixing.

We doubt anyone will miss Louis Louw as CTO.

I personally think he’s held the software back for years with very little in the way of development while still raking in the cash from users purchasing software from them.

Bye Bye Louis Louw you really were awful at listening to what your customers wanted from a piece of software.

SAM Broadcaster Mac SQL Problems

SAM Broadcaster for the Mac has now been Scrapped/discontinued by Spacial Audio!

This past few days I’ve seen a few users saying they were having issues when installing SAM Broadcaster Mac (Crossover) edition.

SAM Broadcaster Mac SQL problems

For some unknown reason it appears the crossover version won’t connect to the users MySQL database.

Database installation problems with SAM Broadcaster aren’t just confined to the Mac (Crossover) version.

I had no end of problems trying to get SAM to install the database in the Windows version in the past.

As I said in a previous post…

It appears the SAM Broadcaster Mac (Crossover) version was cobbled together in a rush to get a working release out.

The SAM Broadcaster Mac edition isn’t native Mac software. It’s just the Windows version ported over.

I knew there would be problems when Spacial ported SAM Broadcaster to the Mac.

The Windows version has enough of it’s own issues & bugs to begin with.

Sadly when it comes to the Mac there aren’t that many alternatives when it comes to radio automation software written natively for OS X.

The only other “alternative” I can suggest is installing Windows on Virtualbox on your Mac and have that running a copy of software such as RadioDJ

We realise that’s probably not an ideal solution for most Mac users but we’re afraid its as good as you’re going to get at the moment.

Who knows one day maybe some boffin will come up with a decent “Native” automation software package for the Mac…

Stop paying $$$ for software from Spacial Audio you’re just paying them to lurch from one disaster to another.
