SAM Bashing

Yet again I’ve been given a barrage of abuse by some idiot, The person had a go at me about the posts on this website about SAM Broadcaster.

I also had to ban the same person from my Facebook page for the same reason.

Get a grip! I’m not bashing SAM Broadcaster. I’m letting people know just how truly terrible SAM Broadcaster is as a product.

It’s not just me who seems to have a problem with Spacial Audio either.

I keep seeing complaint after complaint on social media from lots & lots of very unhappy SAM Broadcaster users. These are just some of the many posts.

It’s not just us who think SAM Broadcaster isn’t worth the money Spacial Audio ask for the program.

So pack in having a go at me just because you think I’m bashing SAM Broadcaster and Spacial Audio.

Not a week goes by without someone mentioning they’ve switched software because they are unhappy with the direction Spacial Audio seem to be heading.

SAM Bashing? Nope! It’s just a valid point of view about a piece of badly coded software.

Which last time I looked I was entitled to.

P.S: If you don’t like what is written on this website. DON’T READ IT! No one is forcing you.

Pay for PAL scripts? (SAM Broadcaster)

Pay for PAL scripts?

This is another website that popped up on my radar recently called “PalScripts” offering paid for PAL (Playlist Automation Language) scripts and an SQL repair service for SAM Broadcaster.

Screenshot from 2013-03-12 11:08:35

What’s wrong with that I hear you ask?

The problem is they are asking people to pay $$$ for PAL scripts that were once FREELY available from the Spacial Audio forums.

They also offer to fix common SAM Broadcaster problems starting at $30 an hour. Which we seem to think is a bit expensive.

Especially when SAM Broadcaster is so unstable and badly coded.

It’s worth pointing out here that SAM Broadcaster is prone to crashing without warning and more so if a PAL script isn’t written properly.

A badly written PAL script can cause lots of memory leaks and also cause SAM Broadcaster to crash and burn…

Make the switch to RadioDJ FREE Radio Automation software.

RadioDJ free radio automation software

RadioDJ Free radio automation download
Download

RadioDJ doesn’t require any overpriced PAL scripts in order for the program to function.

The newer versions of RadioDJ have a feature called “Track(s) from SQL query”

SQLQueryrotation

Which seem a lot less complicated than learning how to get PAL scripts to work correctly.

“Money for old rope springs to mind with paid for PAL scripts”

SAM Broadcaster Pro EULA Licence

I did a post a few days back about the restrictions that Terrestrial stations have when it comes to using SAM Broadcaster.

It would appear that Spacial audio restrict what you can do with the software even further with the SAM broadcaster Pro EULA Licence.

You can only run 1 station per licence with SAM Broadcaster. Which means if you have more than 1 station on the go the cost is going to rack up significantly!

Running 3 stations would equal $897 even before you shell out for hosting and streaming.

This is really money for old rope.

Even after shelling out the $$$ for SAM Broadcaster you still don’t actually own the program. Spacial do.

Save yourself the headaches of SAM Broadcaster and its EULA licence restrictions by using RadioDJ Instead.

You are freely allowed to use RadioDJ for as many stations you want to use it for. Without any restrictions in the licence agreement.

I know of several users who have more than 1 station running successfully with RadioDJ.

Yet another reason you shouldn’t pay Spacial Audio for SAM Broadcaster.

Spacial I think you know what you can do with your SAM Broadcaster Pro EULA Licence!

Beware Spacial Audio!

Just been for my daily snoop on the Spacial audio forums and yet again it doesn’t make for good reading.

“I had sent an email to Spacial Audio tech support last week to ask about rolling back to version 4.x.x if for some reason I had a problem with v2014.1 and their reply was: “once (sic) you converted to 2014 you cant rollback to version 4.x.x

This user has already paid for version 4.x.x and is now being told by Spacial Audio support that he cannot use a version of SAM Broadcaster he paid for in the event of him wanting to switch back.

Not only is this bad customer service it is also “dishonest” IMHO!

I wouldn’t mind so much but this comes just a few weeks after Spacial promised to start giving better support.

Goes to show they haven’t changed.

I’ve just come across this comment on Facebook. This guy doesn’t sound to happy.

My message as always:

“Beware Spacial Audio! It seems they don’t give a damn about their customer base and only want you for the $$$ you part with. They have a nasty habit of telling LIES just to sell their shoddy software. Do NOT buy software from Spacial Audio you will regret it”

Instead why not use something like RadioDJ free radio automation software.

RadioDJ Free radio automation download
Download

It’s FREE between updates doesn’t require keys or activations in order to work the program.

We’ve used RadioDJ for over 5 years now and couldn’t be happier with the stability and reliability of the software.

Something else that cannot be said for SAM Broadcaster.

You won’t regret it and you’ll have money to spend on other studio essentials.

Lazy SQL Programming.

I keep seeing posts on the Spacial forums from users having headaches with SAM Broadcaster and MySQL.

This is nothing new I’ve written about the SQL structure in SAM Broadcaster being badly written before.

Users are being told they cannot use MySQL 5.6 and have to use 5.5 instead.

That just screams Lazy SQL programming to me.

The SAM Broadcaster SQL tables haven’t really changed for over 6 years and the database is prone to crashing.

Where as RadioDJ will work with MySQL 5.6 and the tables don’t crash like the SAM Broadcaster ones do.

If you are having SQL headaches with SAM do yourself a favour uninstall SAM and Install RadioDJ free radio automation software instead & you’ll be better off in the long run.

The database tables in RadioDJ rarely seem to crash or need a repair.

We know of users who have had RadioDJ running for 6 months without so much as a hiccup.

People need to wise up to the fact Spacial Audio just take people’s money for their software without actually doing any work to upgrade their SQL tables or the software itself.

My advice as always is Don’t pay Spacial Audio $$$ for software that isn’t up to the job.

You won’t get any support when things go badly wrong with your database.

Game over SAM Broadcaster!

So finally after 2 or so years of waiting RadioDJ now has a working online request system via the new website templates.

Something SAM Broadcaster has had the ability to do since v1.3.

The song at the top of the playlist marked blue is one I just placed in the queue via my website.

Screenshot from 2013-06-24 15:32:09

It’s not that difficult to setup the request system. If you allow port forwarding on your router & website or VPS.

Just point the serv_inc.php config file to your IP address and SQL database.

A tutorial for setting up Radio DJ requests can be found Here.

Radio DJ streams to Shoutcast/Icecast via an encoding plugin which can be found on the Altacast website.

You can find the latest version of RadioDJ by clicking on the logo below.

What are you waiting for give Radio DJ a spin today you may be pleasantly surprised by how well it works.

Should you have issues setting Radio DJ up help is available on the Community forums.

Now Radio DJ has request capabilities & encoding plugins no one will need to pay for radio automation software ever again.

So technically that’s Game over SAM Broadcaster!!

Explains a lot about SAM broadcaster

So the truth is finally out. We now know the reason SAM Broadcaster 4.x.x series won’t work on Windows 8/10.

It would appear SAM Broadcaster is written is Borland/Embarcadero Delphi. A programming language that most developers abandoned years ago.

Most software developers write stuff in C++ now or C# these days, That explains a lot about SAM Broadcaster

It’s also possibly why the program is so prone to crashing and hogging so many system resources.

We always knew there was something about the program being badly designed and thanks to a disgruntled Spacial customer it’s been revealed.

Who on earth uses Borland/Embarcadero Delphi?

It’s almost akin to using Front page for websites.

Our advice to anyone thinking about buying SAM Broadcaster from Spacial Audio is: DON’T DO IT!

You will only be paying Spacial to make even more bad software. Switch to RadioDJinstead.

Radio DJ is free and is written for .NET and works on XP/Vista/Win 7/Win 8/Win 10 & it doesn’t crash or whinge like SAM Broadcaster does.
