All Change For The Shoutcast Yp Listings

I noticed about 2 hours ago that I couldn’t find certain stations on shoutcast.com

After I logged onto the Winamp forums all became apparent when I saw this announcement from DrO.

The name servers on the Shoutcast website no longer point to AOL servers but now Radionomy’s servers.

Domain Name: SHOUTCAST.COM

Registrar: MELBOURNE IT, LTD. D/B/A INTERNET NAMES WORLDWIDE

Whois Server: whois.melbourneit.com

Referral URL: http://www.melbourneit.com

Name Server: NS5.RADIONOMY.COM

Name Server: NS6.RADIONOMY.COM

Name Server: NS7.RADIONOMY.COM

What does this mean for the shoutcast YP listings? At this stage we can only but guess that they will look a lot different when Radionomy have finished with them.

I guess the next few weeks/months will be an interesting time for Internet Radio…

Winamp Goes For A Song!

I have previously written about Radionomy taking over Winamp. Now the news is official Radionomy do now indeed own Winamp and Shoutcast.

The deal is thought to be worth between $5 million and $10 million, with AOL taking a 12% stake of Radionomy in the process. When you consider AOL initially paid around $80 million for Winamp in the first place. Radionomy seem to have got themselves a bargain with this purchase.

The offical blurb from Radionomy is Here

What does this mean for the future of both Winamp and Shoutcast? I guess we will have to wait and see. If they decide to start sticking adverts into peoples shoutcast streams It will only mean more people using icecast.

The New Owner Of Winamp Is…

Thanks to someone being vigilant on the winamp forums we now know the fate of the program. The name servers on winamp have been changed from AOL.com

As you can see from the above picture the name servers have changed from aol.com to Radionomy’s name servers.

What does this mean for winamp? At this stage we don’t know all we know is the name servers have changed.

We have done a check on the name servers with a whois search and it is definitely correct.

Shoutcast.com still points to AOL so we don’t know if this is yet part of the deal or not.

I guess we shall expect an official announcement at some point this week.
