SAM Broadcaster DJ Seats (No Need)
Spacial Audio now force people to use SAM Broadcaster Cloud in order to use their DJ seat system.
I’ve woken up this morning and just checked Twitter & I saw this Tweet in the SAM Broadcaster feed.
Wait a minute! Just how misleading is that tweet?
Most people will read it as 88% off SAM Broadcaster. They won’t read it as 88% off a course on how to run a radio station with SAM Broadcaster.
I hate posts on social media that mislead people. Don’t fall for scams like this.
You don’t even need to pay for software to start an online radio station. You just need RadioDJ free radio automation software.
People also don’t need to pay out $$$ to learn how to do Internet radio.
Shoutcast Now Playing to Twitter
We used this script for quite some time and it’s a great way to tell your followers on Twitter what songs you are playing on your station.
It takes the now playing info from a Shoutcast v1 server and posts it on Twitter.
Please note: This version only works with Shoutcast v1 servers.
(If you require a Shoutcast v2 script there are scripts available on the Winamp Forums)
Basic instructions: What is required to use the script?
Open the webpage in a browser to point to the twitter.php page (example: http://yoursite/twitter/twitter.php) If all has gone to plan you should see this.
If you have your own VPS setup a cron job to post to twitter as often as required
Search Google for more information on “How to setup a webserver”
That is all there is to it. It’s not that difficult to setup.
N.B: You use this script at your own risk. We cannot be held liable if it screws up your system or doesn’t work for you.
By now you are probably aware that I hate a program called SAM Broadcaster made by Spacial Audio.
Let me explain a little as to why I hate it so much:
I discovered Internet radio back in 1999/2000 time when I first started using the Internet. Although It was 2002 before I got chance to actually DJ on the Internet.
One of the stations I listened to was advertising for DJ’s so I signed up & ended up with regular weekly radio show.
I had to use SAM Broadcaster 2.7.9 (Streaming Audio Manager) to do my shows with.
Despite being talked through the setup of the program it was fiddly to setup for a computer novice like me. I’d never worked with MySQL up until that point either.
The program never worked as it should & more often than not it would crash or the encoders would buffer during a live show. The crashing & buffering issues actually lost me the DJ position on the radio station.
I put up with SAM Broadcaster and it’s little quirks for just over 8 years.
The final straw came on New Year’s Day 2011 when an error message similar to the one below popped up and SAM Broadcaster was only playing station jingles. Instead of playing music. It’s what’s known as a “Clockwheel” failure.
It wouldn’t play any songs yet the clockwheel rotation had more than enough songs/artists to choose from.
We had title separation set at 1440 minutes (24 Hours) and artist separation at 240 minutes. So that couldn’t have been the cause of the issue.
SAM Broadcaster just wouldn’t do what it was designed to do and that’s to stream/play music. Enough was enough!
Around late 2010 we discovered a piece of software called RadioDJ free radio automation software.
I decided to switch to it after the clockwheel failure in SAM Broadcaster.
We instantly liked the program & found it easy to use. It held up for a lot longer than SAM Broadcaster ever could. The record was around 4 weeks & the computer only needed a reboot due to Windows updates.
We now swear by RadioDJ as a radio automation program. RadioDJ has NEVER let us down & it’s always been there and worked everytime I’ve gone to work with it.
RadioDJ has taken all of the stress out of automating a music stream. It just works as an automation program should.
We doubt anyone will want to put up with SAM Broadcaster and its issues now RadioDJ can do the same job (Only Better!) for FREE.
Before you think about paying out $$$ for SAM Broadcaster have a look at RadioDJ. You may be pleasantly surprised by how good the free stuff works.
Remember a “Fool and their money” are easily parted!
Despite claims by Spacial Audio in their blog posts RadioDJ doesn’t come with any catches or nasty hidden fees, Its 100% FREE for use by any DJ or radio station in the world.
RadioDJ is a free radio studio automation program for use by any DJ or radio station.
You can even run multiple Shoutcast/Icecast radio stations if you want using third party virtual audio cables (VACS).
It can also be used as a home entertainment system for music. (Which is what we currently use it for)
Yes! It’s 100% Free with no nasty hidden fees or catches despite what certain software/hosting companies try claim in their blog posts. No keys, activation or patches needed to work the full program.
Yes RadioDJ works rather well on Windows 10 with very few issues. Unlike other radio automation programs that have “compatibility” issues.
(i.e 2 listener requests from an IP per hour like SAM Broadcaster)
While it’s nice to have the request function in RadioDJ you have to remember you’re running a radio station not a jukebox.
Requests from listeners are all well and good but treating your station like a jukebox isn’t going to win you many listeners.
Radio is supposed be creative and entertaining.
If you just have listener request after listener request you might as well call your station “The World’s Biggest Jukebox”
I think a daily limit on requests (i.e No more than 5 requests from 1 IP per day) is actually better than allowing so many requests per hour per IP address.
You don’t have to play a request that someone has made. It’s just a bonus for live shows really.
If people email you and complain that you’re not playing their requests.
Just ignore them it’s your station & it’s up to you to decide what gets played (& what doesn’t).
It’s always nice seeing other people switching from SAM Broadcaster to RadioDJ free radio automation software.
If you haven’t discovered RadioDJ yet what are you waiting for?
RadioDJ works much better than SAM Broadcaster and doesn’t seem to crash or go wrong that often.
We know of several users of RadioDJ who haven’t had to restart their computer or laptop for around 7 months, It’s an extremely stable & reliable automation program.
The best bit about RadioDJ is the fact it’s 100% FREE (No catches, No hidden costs, No messy reg keys)
Other users have had this to say about the software about the software.
“My RadioDJ system is sounding so good! What a fantastic piece of software and community support. Thanks everyone”
“Things I like about RadioDJ are stability, flexibility, community and NO BUFFERING! Listening trend is up 71% since migrating to RadioDJ! Stability breeds consistency”
“RadioDJ has got to be the best playout system I have found online, quite simply – IT WORKS! It sounds extremely professional once you set it up and get your music added”
“I love the way the program is laid out and how professional it looks. It took some time to install and get used to but that’s where the Community forums come to your rescue if you get stuck with Installing and using the program”
