Now Playing Text issue (RadioDJ)

Seen a few posts from people who are struggling to get RadioDJ to generate the NowPlaying.txt files.

To get RadioDJ to generate the text file you need to be running RadioDJ as “Administrator”

Now Playing Text

“Newer version of Windows won’t allow writing on C root drive if the application is not running as administrator. It’s not a RadioDJ issue, but a Windows security rule”

Don’t forget to set the location of where you want the program to generate the text file to. e.g C:\NowPlaying.txt

If it’s still not working try lowering your UAC (User Account Control) settings to the lowest setting. As has been said its usually a Windows security problem that stops it from writing the file to the location.

That is all there is to getting a now playing output which can be read by most of the Standalone encoding solutions out there.

Should you still have issues then try the RadioDJ community forums and explain your issue clearly and calmly.

Shoutcast now playing PHP script

Are you looking for a simple way to get now playing info from your Shoutcast server?

You will need an encoding program that supports title streaming in order for this to work.

Programs such as Edcast/MB Recaster/Radiocaster get now playing info from a text file.

Not all standalone encoding programs support text files therefore they won’t output now playing information.

1) You will need a PHP enabled web server with “fsock” connections enabled (Ask your host if they support this most good hosts do)

Song Title Updater

Song Title Updater

This is a useful tool if you are using encoding software which doesn’t support title updating.

It’s easy enough to configure and use.

1) Download and unzip This folder
2) Place the .exe file on the C:\ drive outside of the program folder.
3) Create a blank folder on the C:\ drive called “Titles” (Make sure it has the correct read/write permissions)
4) Point the title updater to the titles directory.
5) Enter your Shoutcast/Icecast server details. Click server type for Icecast or shoutcast v1 or v2.
6) If your radio software has a NowPlaying.txt or similar select text file and browse to where the .txt file is.
7) Click start and if all goes to plan you should have automatic title updates.

Just rinse and repeat if you have multiple servers to update the titles on.

Give the other instances of the program a different name (e.g: songtitleup2.exe)

Note: All downloads supplied as seen.

Shoutcast Now Playing to Twitter

Shoutcast Now Playing to Twitter

We used this script for quite some time and it’s a great way to tell your followers on Twitter what songs you are playing on your station.

It takes the now playing info from a Shoutcast v1 server and posts it on Twitter.

Please note: This version only works with Shoutcast v1 servers.

(If you require a Shoutcast v2 script there are scripts available on the Winamp Forums)

If you have your own VPS setup a cron job to post to twitter as often as required

“If you don’t have your own PHP webserver then you can quite easily set one up on your computer with WAMP or just Apache.

Search Google for more information on “How to setup a webserver”

That is all there is to it. It’s not that difficult to setup.
