Praise Indeed!

I absolutley love the users of the RadioDJ forums, But I love those who have come from using SAM broadcaster even more!

Isn’t it nice when someone says this??

As you can see from the above picture this user in particular has really nailed it on the head about RadioDJ. A friendly and helpful forum and people willing to help each other isn’t something that can be said for certain other software forums.

If you haven’t made the switch from SAM broadcaster to RadioDJ yet.

What are you waiting for? You’ll be a lot happier in the long run.

Sam Broadcaster 2013

SAM Broadcaster 2013: It would appear peoples patience is fast running out with Spacial Audio.

I would love to know what software this user has switched to.

We’re nearly at the end of 2013 and there have only been 6 updates of SAM Broadcaster 2013 and most of them have been failures.

It’s still the same old program with the same old bugs.

The only major addition this year was FLAC support.

Spacial want people to pay through the nose for what can only be described as a “Lazy” development team who don’t seem interested in getting SAM Broadcaster to work properly.

The fact they are still using Borland/Embarcadero Delphi to make SAM Broadcaster should be ringing alarm bells with everyone.

That’s why SAM broadcaster has so many bugs.

I urge people to STOP paying Spacial for SAM Broadcaster and switch to RadioDJ instead.

RadioDJ is a far better FREE alternative to SAM Broadcaster.

Sam Broadcaster Multiple Instances

SAM Broadcaster Multiple Instances

I saw a post on the SAM Broadcaster forums from a user saying they couldn’t run more than one instance of SAM Broadcaster.

It seems the people who code SAM Broadcaster have stopped people from running multiple instances of the program on the same PC.

Even though those users have paid through the nose for the software.

The restrictions don’t end there either.

If you read the EULA (End User Licence agreement) you will soon realise Spacial Audio will only allow you the user to run 1 radio station per copy of SAM.

There is of course a simple and easy solution to this problem.

Switch to the better and free RadioDJ free radio automation software.

You can run as many instances of RadioDJ as you want providing your computer has enough RAM and processing power.

Make sure you give each instance it’s own SQL Database and folder and there should be no issues.

I know of one user of Radio DJ who is running 11 streams with 11 different instances of the program on one computer.

It is really time people woke up to just how bad Spacial Audio and their software limitations are.

Don’t pay for SAM Broadcaster you will regret it!

Sam Cast Fail

Reading through the Spacial forums this post caught my attention.

Screenshot from 2013-10-26 15:52:30

Yet again Spacial seem to be releasing software that isn’t fit for purpose.

They forced people into upgrading to the newer version of SAM Cast just so they could run the newer versions of the software on a new OS.

No software company should do that.

Instead they should make sure their software works on all versions of Windows.

Letting the end user decide what operating system they want to use.

If you need a stand alone encoder then don’t bother with SAM Cast.

It doesn’t support title streaming (Unless you have a degree in programming)

Simplecast was the same that never worked properly either that was prone to crashing without warning as well.

Requested By…..

RadioDJ version 1.6.5.0 was released yesterday and what a release! The program just gets better & better.

Now RadioDJ has a better and improved request system.

You can also now Include the username of the person who requested the song in the stream title.

Something that you needed a badly written PAL script for SAM Broadcaster.

Screenshot from 2013-10-09 09:43:47

You can achieve this by adding this code to requests under Options > Stream titles. Choose requests from the list and paste this into the box.

$artist$ - $title$ [Requested By $request_username$]

Don’t forget to click save!

There is also an option to include a message but personally I think that would take up to much space in a title stream.

The demo request PHP script for RadioDJ can be found Here.

If you haven’t tried out RadioDJ what are you waiting for?

Radiodj Comes Of Age!

This morning the latest full working version of RadioDJ was released. It’s been just over a year since we started beta testing and now we have what is truly a great automation program.

I will get round to doing a page dedicated to RadioDJ and how to use it sometime soon. For now I’m busy just enjoying this latest release of RDJ!

A full FREE download can be found here Here . Just unzip to the C:\ drive outside the program folder. Install the database and import tracks and your away. You will never need to pay Spacial audio for SAM Broadcaster ever again!

Lazy Sql Programming.

I keep seeing posts on the Spacial forums from users having headaches with SAM Broadcaster and MySQL.

This is nothing new I’ve written about the SQL structure in SAM Broadcaster being badly written before.

Users are being told they cannot use MySQL 5.6 and have to use 5.5 instead.

That just screams Lazy SQL programming to me.

The SAM Broadcaster SQL tables haven’t really changed for over 6 years and the database is prone to crashing.

Where as RadioDJ will work with MySQL 5.6 and the tables don’t crash like the SAM Broadcaster ones do.

If you are having SQL headaches with SAM do yourself a favour uninstall SAM and Install RadioDJ free radio automation software instead & you’ll be better off in the long run.

The database tables in RadioDJ rarely seem to crash or need a repair.

We know of users who have had RadioDJ running for 6 months without so much as a hiccup.

People need to wise up to the fact Spacial Audio just take people’s money for their software without actually doing any work to upgrade their SQL tables or the software itself.

My advice as always is Don’t pay Spacial Audio $$$ for software that isn’t up to the job.

You won’t get any support when things go badly wrong with your database.

Opus Definitely A Codec Worth Using.

A while back I posted about the Opus codec and asked if it was a codec for the future. After a few days testing it I take back everything I said about it being like the failed mp3PRO codec.

I have been streaming with it at 96kbps and it sounds absolutely perfect and crystal clear. Pity the same thing couldn’t be said for mp3PRO.

Since i wrote about Opus I’ve done some searching on the internet about it and have found out that not only does Skype support it but also VideoLan (VLC) player also the html5 audio tag in Firefox supports it. Which allows you to listen to the stream in the browser.

If you are yet to discover the benefits of Opus then what are you waiting for. The Encoding plugin for RadioDJ supports it, All you need to do is setup an Icecast server. Set the Mountpoints to /listen.opus in the Icecast config. Setup an encoder and set it encoding.

Screenshot from 2013-07-13 13:06:18

To get the stream playing in Firefox you will need something like this piece of code.

<audio src="https://yourserverIP:port/listen.opus" controls>

Save it with a .php extension then open it up in Firefox and you should hear it … Simple really.
