SAM Broadcaster Multiple Instances

SAM Broadcaster Multiple Instances

I saw a post on the SAM Broadcaster forums from a user saying they couldn’t run more than one instance of SAM Broadcaster.

It seems the people who code SAM Broadcaster have stopped people from running multiple instances of the program on the same PC.

Even though those users have paid through the nose for the software.

The restrictions don’t end there either.

If you read the EULA (End User Licence agreement) you will soon realise Spacial Audio will only allow you the user to run 1 radio station per copy of SAM.

There is of course a simple and easy solution to this problem.

Switch to the better and free RadioDJ free radio automation software.

You can run as many instances of RadioDJ as you want providing your computer has enough RAM and processing power.

Make sure you give each instance it’s own SQL Database and folder and there should be no issues.

I know of one user of Radio DJ who is running 11 streams with 11 different instances of the program on one computer.

It is really time people woke up to just how bad Spacial Audio and their software limitations are.

Don’t pay for SAM Broadcaster you will regret it!

SAM Cast Fail

Reading through the Spacial forums this post caught my attention.

Screenshot from 2013-10-26 15:52:30

Yet again Spacial seem to be releasing software that isn’t fit for purpose.

They forced people into upgrading to the newer version of SAM Cast just so they could run the newer versions of the software on a new OS.

No software company should do that.

Instead they should make sure their software works on all versions of Windows.

Letting the end user decide what operating system they want to use.

If you need a stand alone encoder then don’t bother with SAM Cast.

It doesn’t support title streaming (Unless you have a degree in programming)

Simplecast was the same that never worked properly either that was prone to crashing without warning as well.

RadioDJ comes of age!

This morning the latest full working version of RadioDJ was released. It’s been just over a year since we started beta testing and now we have what is truly a great automation program.

I will get round to doing a page dedicated to RadioDJ and how to use it sometime soon. For now I’m busy just enjoying this latest release of RDJ!

A full FREE download can be found here Here . Just unzip to the C:\ drive outside the program folder. Install the database and import tracks and your away. You will never need to pay Spacial audio for SAM Broadcaster ever again!

Lazy SQL Programming.

I keep seeing posts on the Spacial forums from users having headaches with SAM Broadcaster and MySQL.

This is nothing new I’ve written about the SQL structure in SAM Broadcaster being badly written before.

Users are being told they cannot use MySQL 5.6 and have to use 5.5 instead.

That just screams Lazy SQL programming to me.

The SAM Broadcaster SQL tables haven’t really changed for over 6 years and the database is prone to crashing.

Where as RadioDJ will work with MySQL 5.6 and the tables don’t crash like the SAM Broadcaster ones do.

If you are having SQL headaches with SAM do yourself a favour uninstall SAM and Install RadioDJ free radio automation software instead & you’ll be better off in the long run.

The database tables in RadioDJ rarely seem to crash or need a repair.

We know of users who have had RadioDJ running for 6 months without so much as a hiccup.

People need to wise up to the fact Spacial Audio just take people’s money for their software without actually doing any work to upgrade their SQL tables or the software itself.

My advice as always is Don’t pay Spacial Audio $$$ for software that isn’t up to the job.

You won’t get any support when things go badly wrong with your database.

Opus definitely a codec worth using.

A while back I posted about the Opus codec and asked if it was a codec for the future. After a few days testing it I take back everything I said about it being like the failed mp3PRO codec.

I have been streaming with it at 96kbps and it sounds absolutely perfect and crystal clear. Pity the same thing couldn’t be said for mp3PRO.

Since i wrote about Opus I’ve done some searching on the internet about it and have found out that not only does Skype support it but also VideoLan (VLC) player also the html5 audio tag in Firefox supports it. Which allows you to listen to the stream in the browser.

If you are yet to discover the benefits of Opus then what are you waiting for. The Encoding plugin for RadioDJ supports it, All you need to do is setup an Icecast server. Set the Mountpoints to /listen.opus in the Icecast config. Setup an encoder and set it encoding.

To get the stream playing in Firefox you will need something like this piece of code.

<audio src="http://yourserverIP:port/listen.opus" controls>

Save it with a .php extension then open it up in Firefox and you should hear it … Simple really.

Game over SAM Broadcaster!

So finally after 2 or so years of waiting RadioDJ now has a working online request system via the new website templates.

Something SAM Broadcaster has had the ability to do since v1.3.

The song at the top of the playlist marked blue is one I just placed in the queue via my website.

It’s not that difficult to setup the request system. If you allow port forwarding on your router & website or VPS.

Just point the serv_inc.php config file to your IP address and SQL database.

A tutorial for setting up Radio DJ requests can be found Here.

Radio DJ streams to Shoutcast/Icecast via an encoding plugin which can be found on the Altacast website.

You can find the latest version of RadioDJ by clicking on the logo below.

What are you waiting for give Radio DJ a spin today you may be pleasantly surprised by how well it works.

Should you have issues setting Radio DJ up help is available on the Community forums.

Now Radio DJ has request capabilities & encoding plugins no one will need to pay for radio automation software ever again.

So technically that’s Game over SAM Broadcaster!!

Bring on the RC!

Since August last year we have had no less than 33 beta versions of RadioDJ to test.

We now have what looks like a totally different piece of software from the last stable version 1.6.0

Workspace 1_002

Now armed with some really great features RadioDJ is going to give other automation software makers a right royal headache.

These are just some of the great features this newer version has.

  • Automatically overlap sweepers over start/intro/end;
  • Voicetracking support;
  • Integrated Shoutcast/Icecast encoder (by plugin);
  • Now playing artist-title exported to file, web or serial (by plugin);
  • Custom number of auxiliary players (by plugin);
  • Audio Processor plugin (with AGC, Compressor and 10 band Equalizer);
  • Auto skip silence from start and end of the tracks;
  • Backup and restore database option;
  • History window;
  • Intro countdown;
  • Time until sweeper countdown;
  • Time calculations for easier back-timing in live operation;
  • Advanced reporting system;
  • Integrated advanced search;
  • Integrated web browser (by plugin);
  • Every event is announced in the main window, a minute before launching;
  • User set colors for cartwall buttons;
  • Artwork support (by plugin);
  • The next major release will see the program come into the RC stage (Release Candidate) which means the program is just about ready for use in a production environment although I have been streaming my station with most of the beta versions.

    Cheers Marius for all your hard work and great programming skills. We would also like to thank SnowHow for his contribution to the software with his plugins.

    So bring on the RC!! RadioDJ is truly a force to be reckoned with.

    Don’t believe us? Give it a try RadioDJ Download It’s FREE so what have you got to lose?

    Spacial should be worried.

    So we’re nearly out of the beta stage with the new version of RadioDJ v1.6.3.2 it seems to be really stable and runs like a dream.

    Spacial Audio should really start getting worried as RadioDJ is now 100% better than SAM Broadcaster ever could be.

    Workspace 1_001

    With various plugins for RadioDJ now you have a fully fledged next generation radio automation program.

    It now has streaming capabilities with the encoding plugin.

    With the sound processing plugin you shouldn’t need any external processing like Breakaway/Stereo tool.

    There is just the online request system to come and “Bang” you have a rival to SAM Broadcaster!

    So what would you rather do?

    A) Pay $299 upwards for a copy of SAM Broadcaster and wait years for new features?

    B) Use a free program such as Radio DJ? Which has new features added with every release?

    We know which option we would pick. Option B RadioDJ all the way,

    RadioDJ is absolutely fantastic and for a FREE program you cant really go wrong.

    (Yes it really is free despite what some software blogs may tell you)

    Seriously ditch SAM Broadcaster and start using RadioDJ
